As per the title, an ATI 4850 has gone belly up in a friends system, giving a dazzling array of colours on screen!

I need something which is equivalent in processing power, ATI or Nvidia, for as cheap as possible.

He's running a 1680x1050 monitor with it, some light gaming (e.g Grid or Source games) so there is really no need for a real term upgrade.

Thanks for any suggestions, need the card ASAP as he does work on this machine too!

Quite a bit over budget would be this, but is worth considering (if possible) because it is thee bargain to be had atm - the draw back being it's pre-order.

Otherwise, within budget I'd look at :

^This one has only 512mb of memory so bear that in mind, there are one or two others in the 5750 range for sale here which might suit your friend better. They are slightly more expensive though, but roughly within budget.

Or :

^Now I can't remember for certain what is better out of those two but my money would be on the 450gts. Iirc it out performs the 5770 marginally, so if that's the case then it will beat the 5750 by a little more.

Another one worth thinking about, a bit over budget though :

Second hand cards will be worth a look as well.

Thanks a lot for the help everyone, much appreciated! Went with the XFX 5750 1GB in the end, the extra 512mb memory seemed worth it for a fiver! Hopefully it will arrive for him tomorrow!
