4870 to a 5850. worth it?

Cant see avp3 not being maxable on a 4870 I'd hang on even longer it's not like there's loads of good must have pc games coming. One game is not worthy of an upgrade just to get all the bells and whistles.
Bad company 2 is only beta there's a good chance that it will run far better upon release.

It would be interesting to see how many more fps I would get just from switching to an i5 750 and overclocking it compared to my c2d.perhaps a noticeable increase?anyone had experience with that?

I'm sticking with my trusty ol' 1GB 4870 for the time being. I was tempted by a 5850 but tbh my 4870 doesn't exactly struggle with games as it is (even at 1920x1200). Will see what happens over the next few months I think. If I'm not hitting 40-50FPS averages with a decent amount of eye candy then it's time for some new toys! :)

well this thread proves my 5850 purchase to be a good one, I am moving up
from a 3870, this should be a treat considering I recently changed to a dell 24" at 1920x1280 , should have the new system up soon

I'd like to see the difference between a C2D, let's say E8400 @ 3.0 and 4.0ghz and a i7 920 @ the same speeds, see how much difference there is... with the 5850 :)

this thread has kinda confused me

Im thinking of buying an i7 system (from OcUK of course lol) and the choices of card from cheapest to most expensive are the following - going up a small amount each time)

4870, 5750, 5770 and then 4890?

I will be running dual monitors (24" and 20" dell) - is the 4890 the best one to go for or should I go for the more recent 5770? Not a heavy gamer, more for hd media wripping / archiving with some racing inbetween

Many thanks

If you aren't a heavy gamer then the 5770 makes perfect sense with less power consumption.
just don't expect it to be getting great frames in direct x 11 games.

i dont think its a good idea to get a 4xxx card now, unless you get a really sweet deal, because dx11 will be the new standard, so getting a 5 series card makes a lot more sense :)
