Could someone please tell me how big a difference in fps I will notice between these two cards at 1680x1050? I will be playing on a 22" TFT and have been informed that there really isn't much point buying a 4870 intstead if the max res I will be playing at is 1680x1050. Is this true?

I would obviously like to save money if going for a 4870 seems unnecessary in this situation :)

Thanks,

What's the rest of your setup?

The 4850 handles that resolution very well, but the 4870 does so about 15-20% better when compared stock vs stock.

Sorry gurusan should have mentioned it,
this is one current spec among many rather similar ones that I have been advised on so far,

looks good to me.

I assume you will be overclocking....with that gainward cooler the 4850 should do 700mhz at least...and if you are a little more of a mod-head the 4850 is easily pencil modded. :)

Or you could look for a 2nd hand 4870.

Thanks a lot :)

Does the difference in FPS between the two cards increase, the higher the the resolution? From looking at those crysis benchmarks i'm not sure if 3-5fps more = £62 extra :D

I have a 4850 in my setup, its pretty good tbh. Wish i had a 1gb version really.
I was tempted by a 4870 upgrade, but after reading benchies, and looking at in game performance reviews, the extra money just isnt worth it.

If you are buying from scratch i would say get the 4870 1gb or 260-216 as they "should" last a little longer.

If you already have a 4850 id keep it a bit longer and wait to see how the new nvidia cards are pricd in January.
