Is the OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Reaper HPC a good overclocker? or would something else be better? I'm looking to buy 4GB of Ram, and want something that going to overclock well, i was considering going for some PC8500, but it tends to cost double the price. Will be upgrading the processor to one of the new quads in the future and would like to not have to upgrade anything else to get the most from it.

Its going into a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R, with a E2200 processor (Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler) and 8800GT.

Thanks

I'd have to recommend the Ballistix line here.

Got 4x1gb of PC6400 (800mhz) here. Runnning @ 1250mhz with 2.2v going through it (8hr Orthos stable). I picked it up for £90 delivered brand new a while back.

yes but how long will it last? i went thru 3 sets of micron memory
2 sets of cellshock and 1 set of ballistix 5300 in last year
i think micron memory is very poor

i would go for the gskills

Thought the G-Skills were micron as well. I've always had crucial ram in my main machine, going back quite a while now and I've not had one set die on me (touchwood). Even then the turnaround time for the RMA is 3-4 days.

ive got a set of the G.Skills PC800 1000mhz stuff, thats aparantly good of oc-ing

Got the same stuff, its excellent. 1000Mhz out the box.

Gone up in price recently though, I only paid £83 for my 4GB set at the end of December, they're going for £100+ now

What about some Crucial Ballistix 4GB (4x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4

Would these be better being 4x1GB? about the same price with lower Latency

Or the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz quite abit cheaper?

gskills pc8000 is now £82.....maybe this is the best buy now. I'm just not sure if its better to have 2x2GB or 4x1GB. I guess at this price the speed of the gskills is not beatable by any of the 4x1GB sticks even at pc6400.

2 x 2GB is less stressful on the mem controller, as such you should be able to hit higher FSB's easier.

Your partly right.

yes it will have less stress but it still wont take out the factors

1: wont reach as high fsb
2: overclocking potential will suck
3: latecy though the roof, 70+ns

I bought some 8gig kit of OCZ pc6400, they sucked i had to send them back for refund.

i recommend : 4x1 Balistx Tracers pc6400, they let you get very high on the FSB aswell as clock like monsters with low latency and very tight timeings.

Actually oc don't do ballistix tracers at pc6400, only the pc8500 at about £75 for a 2GB kit.

The Latency on the gskills are 5-5-5-15, is that really that much better than 4-4-4-12 of the pc6400 ram?

5.5.5.15 are generaly at there limit, they will clock higher but they will struggle at tight timeings.
where as 4.4.4.12 stuff will go higher but keep there tight timeings. :)

try to go for memory with micron interconnects. and only put a max voltage or 2.2v though them on nforce boards or you will burn them out.

So you're recommending the pc6400 stuff then? how do i know which are micron interconnects, as it doesn't say in the descriptions?

I was scouting micron D9 ics over at Extreme Forums. and getting extra tips on tweaking memory.

i was told about the Tracer 6400s by a guy over there
he said they clock like hell he wasnt wrong i also checked on of my sticks and indeed its micron D9s

You wont regret getting them tracers they do extreme tight timeings and high mhz at T1 with 4 sticks in my 680I board.

I also checked the DDR2 ic list on google, link doesnt work anymore but before it went down probably becuse there is a new one and i havent found it yet, they where current with there info.
