4GHz i7 920 D0, but only on 19x

Rkj is probably right.

That notwithstanding, looking at the bios settings, it was vcore, not qpi which struck me as low. 200x20 is less stable / needs more vcore for a lot of people. There's more to it than that though, I think someone told me x20 was fine as long as uclock multi was odd though I can't remember which thread that was. I also think dropping bsck down to 190 or so, raising multiplier to 21, stability testing then creeping bsck upwards again is the best approach.

My gigabyte gets stroppy over 215bsck, so I don't think you're going to get much higher on x19.

Try 191x21, 200x20 is far harder to get stable for some reason.

I've heard people mention that odd multipliers are better than even ones but don't understand the science behind that.

everthing else is as at default / auto

max temp 78. is there any way i can make my cpu fan run faster sooner or perminantly on my mobo to keep the temps down as noise isnt an issue?

will try and lower my vcore to see if i can get temps down.

well i lowered vcore and it BSOD, now when i go back to those settings it says NTLDR is missing, put it bacl to 19 x 211 and it loads fine  are these settings ok, will running a lower multiplier do any harm?

I'd enable Load Line Calibration, it solved a load of stability issues for me.

I was setting mine at 21 x 181 for 3.86GHZ, vcore 1.27500 and qpi on auto with ram volt or 1.66 I did prime 95 for 4 hrs no errors no reports and max temp on full load was 69 degrees..

Last night I got a little freaked out as I have this horrible feeling that my system may blow up with the voltages lol .. I never overclocked before this was my first attempt.. but thought to myself "is thee really any need for overclocking for what I use the pc for (photoshop, lightroom, movies etc..) I am not a gamer by any means..

However the thought of having it run at 4.0GHZ just makes you want to have it.. so would you guys reccomend I set up again tonigt? This time at 21 x 191 , turbo enabled , vcore 1.30000 (or shall it be lower) timings for my ram is 9 9 9 24 so I will set them too what should my uncore and qpi multiplier be also what should my ram volt and my qpi and ioh voltage be . pleaase guide :)

Thanks ..

PS: when I was hitting 3.8 GHZ there were 4 little blue lights constantly light up when pc running on the top right of the mother board which I think indicate the level of overclocking .. is this safe? how many blue light should it be max? and there was a small green light which was on by the ram when I put the ram voltage to 1.66?

what mobo do you have? is your i7 the D0 or C0? what cooler are you using?
