I’ve been out of the loop with tech for years so I’m trying to get up to speed with all the latest stuff and what is the best combos etc

When I eventually upgrade my pc I will change my monitor, I currently have a 7 yr old Dell 27" 4K ips panel, primarily bought it for photo editing but now I don’t tend to do any photography so I’m looking at a bit of an all rounder

I will be looking at a mid range gfx card , maybe a 4070s and quite like the sound of an ultra wide monitor but probably a budget model

With that in mind I have a few questions

1: would it be better to buy 4K , then play games at 1440p but upscale with DLSS ? Or would a 1440p native monitor be better ?

2: what size ultra wide monitor is considered the go to for gaming ?

3: is a 4070s ok for an ultra wide?

4: is curved or straight better for ultra wide?

5: what refresh rate should I be looking for as a minimum? (Current monitor is pretty bad for gaming imo)

6: what panel tech should I be getting? 7 /8 years ago IPS was the go to for photo editing although there was drawbacks for gaming, I won’t be doing much editing but is it still worth getting IPS as they seem to be much better now?

I’m sure there’s plenty more questions I havent thought of yet and if anyone could offer any advice / recommendations I’d appreciate it

Thanks both

That’s made things a bit clearer

I read today that ultrawides have a few drawbacks such as unsupported resolutions in some games/apps , how much of an issue is this?

Just been looking at my current monitor and I’m happpy with the size tbh but not the gaming experience , I currently (and when I say currently I mean hardly ever these days) game at 1440 on the current 4K monitor due to my 980ti being a bit pants these days

I just wish there was a decent tech shop close to me but like every where else have to rely on deliveries and returns if I don’t like something
