Hi guys I was wondering if anyone had bought a 5.1 home theater kit with amp for their pc instead of a £200 Logitech / Creative kit.

It seems for about £200 you can pick one up (Same price as Z5500) with an active amp that you could just plug in an optical cable from you sound card.

And if so, was it any good and what was it?

I use a seperates 7.1 speaker system with my computer (HTPC) Mixture of Lexicon/Audiolab/Kef Reference. Yes it's good. For the gaming system I just use a lower end Rotel & B&W 601 stereo system. The only thing I would look into is whether the soundcard carries multi-channel audio in games or not, you might need to use the 5.1 analogue outputs. But for movies and CD's the audio can be passed through coaxial/optical to your DAC/AV amp/AV Pre-Amp.

A £200 HTIB won't be very good though, I would look into 2 channel for that budget (and that's stretching it as it is) Definietly go second hand.
