faster? by a small clock resulting in around 2-4% extra? the MSI that ocuk sell is reference stock speeds, there isn't any slower versions, so the chances of getting an identical clock sped 5850 are rather high:D

And crossfire has always worked by slowing down the faster card since its inception.

That was in reference to "can't find a new 5850" he'll need a faster card, but loose the benefit.

You keep adding things I've not said.

theres always 5850 for sale, a faster card offers little benefit other a stock version, its you who are getting confused.

I am not adding anything to what you said!! you said this.

different spec to the one he has, either faster or slower.

or are you suggesting crossfiring a 5850 with say a 6850?:D

theres a reason for the P67 motherboard and thats to support crossfire/sli properly, as the OP asked for.

Again I'm just pointing out if seems a waste for less than £40 he's get a CPU that wouldn't need upgrading.

To support that future crossfire setup the better cpu would be ideal.

In the future the 5850 won't be avalible new.

If 2nd hand is ok then no problem, but then a 1 year oem CPU should be ok as well, but you seem to think that's bad.

because you are buying a new item for new price and only getting a 1 year warranty.

when you buy a second hand item at a second hand price, you expect limited time remaining on the warranty.

dont you understand this?

I was say crossfiring with anything other than another 5850 should work but is not idea. (this was the case in the past, but would need to be checked)

Note this not a suggestion!

How long do you thing the outstanding warrenty will be, chances are 1-2 years?

When buying 2nd hand you have no control on what's been done to the card, it's always a risk the warrenty have been invalidatied.

But my point is you seem to think 1 year isn't enough for a new item, but 2nd hand item with a transfered warranty of similar time is ok. Seems your a little inconsistant. :D

your lack of knowledge is really shining through::D

you cant crossfire a 5850 and a 6850 together!!:D

And your trying to post advice on a forum?

lol his spec didn't included sli the the op requested.

No, but a single fast GPU!!:D lol

certainly more contribution to this thread than you have offered.

Not inconsistent, even by law the seller of a new item (the store) has to provide a reasonable amount of warranty time for the type of product (certainly equal to or more than 1 year, for example you would expect a TV to last more than a year without fault) , which is your statuary rights as a consumer.

I did say I hadn't checked. And it wasn't a suggestion.

So basically he's limited to the old 5xxx series, so depending on how long he's gonna wait for the 2nd, means there's a fair chance be stuck with the 2nd hand market.

Therefore your argument against the the 1 year warranty for the oem CPU is pretty weak, which was my only suggestion.

Ok this thread is getting silly.

stulid seems to have a problem with a 1 year Warranty for the cpu, I'd rather let the OP decide himself.

My ONLY suggestion was the spend £37-£38.39 more on an upgraded CPU, so there wouldn't be any need to upgrade that component in the future.

Either
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) - OEM £173.99
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler £19.39

or

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) - Retail £191.99

And also to consider the 5850 is last gen, availablity for new product might drop. You'll probably be ok if you intend up buy the 2nd card in 6 months, but who knows?

If you don't mind buying 2nd hand this won't be a problem if it occurs.

I admit I didn't know if the 6xxx and 5xxx weren't crossfire compatiable, but then I wasn't suggesting it. And even if it was, didn't recommend it.
