Right, i havnt bought that rover due to the insurance.

What i want to know is what car i can get for £500 and it has to have reasonably cheap insurance too.

I want the car to be able to run for at least 6 months.

Any ideas? Also cheap insurance is one huge priority.

Old Astra 1.3 or something?

VERY easy for DIY etc.
The lack of power is made up for by the fact they are lovely to drive. Positive gear shift, forgiving clutch etc, spacious enough.

For cheap insurance try: Corsa 1.0, 106 1.0, Saxo 1.0

Awful, but should be the cheapest to insure Id imagine. If they are too much then you'll be lucky if you can insure a car at all Im afraid. :(
I do sympathise mate, I know how expensive it is now to be 17! :(

Even group 1 cars on 3rd party only for the insurance are a bugger at first... I've currently got a 1.3 Hyundai Getz in my parents name and it's still costing £700 :(

You're best to pick up a really cheap Fiesta/Corsa (ie, sub £250) type car and use the change to help with the insurance.

Ebay. Cars less than 100. Job done.

Taxed and tested 1.4 Volvo, rear drive, electric windows & seats - went for 25 quid last night. Worth nothing (obviously) and quite tidy.

Plenty of odds and sods about :)

Or Skodas, Metros (quite a laff), old Pug Diesels. Plenty about :)

pretty similar here but tbh its so expensive even if you did get a cheap brick,
car £500
insurance £1400 pretty much cheapest
Mot £40
tax ~£100
petrol for a year even with small amount of milage ~£1000
servicing and bits ~£300

thats pretty much as cheap as it comes and thats £3340 and thats probbaly underestimated :(

it sucks nowaday for young drivers :(

It seems ok, except if i get into an accident in it, ill be packed in like a sardine :p

All the more reason not to have an accident really. I drive a Seicento, and it's amazing what driving something that small (and that unsafe in the event of a crash!) does for your concentration levels on the road. :)
