Hi,

Thanks in advance, I'm looking for a laptop for my sister, she wants to be able to play Sims 2 and have around £500 ish to spend.

I'm not sure how demanding Sims 2 is? Any ideas? I was thinking something with a 8600GT will do the job.

Cheers,
Korduo

I'm looking for the same thing mate. :D

She likes the look of the HP DV51110EM but thats only got an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3450 inside so it's not exactly a gaming machine.

Sadly she doesn't like the look of any of the Acer laptops otherwise I would have got the 5920G from here.

Thanks for the help everyone, much appreciated.

I don't thing she'll expect anything great, that's the only game she plays.

Is the ATI 3650 any good?

It seems a lot of us are in the same boat! My sister is also after something around £500 that will do general office/web/multimedia stuff along with playing The Sims 2.

After a bit of searching round, a laptop with an Intel P8400 and a nvidia 9600M GT seems out reach, which is a shame. Any other CPU/GPU combos out there worth a look? Some specific laptops to look at would be great.

The new Dell Studio 15 for £499 may be worth a look. It's a 2GHz Pentium Dual Core, with 3GB of RAM and a Radeon 4570 which, according to Notebook Check, performs slightly better than the 8600m GT. The Studio comes with the 256MB version by default, but I imagine it'd still at least be on par with the 8600. Should manage Sims 2 (and even Sims 3, when it arrives) reasonably well.
