5050e Quiet cooling fan needed.

I've just got one of these or my new build HTPC and the bundled HS/Fan is a little on the loud side for me (It's not LOUD - but I would like it quieter).

There's not much heat to **** from these energy efficient chips anyway so could anyone recomment a decent quiet/silent AM2 HS/fan?

What sort of case is it in?

Lots of HTPCs are a little constrained

, mine certainly is.

It's in a Silverstone LC13M - lots of space

I would say just get something like an akasa 965/freezer 7 pro and if you want to really make sure its quiet stick it on a zalman fan mate to keep the speed as low as poss.

try the coolermaster gemini2 make sure one which comes with the fan my mate has one in his antec HTPC and he says its cool and silent, personally give the arctic cooling alpine 64 pro less than a tenner and much quieter than the stock cooler

Cheers - have gone for the alpine 64 - at less than a tenner delivered, you can't go wrong.

Now need to get a silent 92mm fan for the front of the case - for a purpose built HTPC, the fan it comes with is unusually noisy. Unless it's on its way out - that would maybe explain it.

There's two 60mm (i think) fans on the back also - I've got one plugged into the case fan socket and one in the northbridge fan socket - can you get a splitter cable so you can plug both fans into the same header? [yep - found em - sorry if anyone was mid post

how is the fan then has it arrived yet?

i used the socket 775 version in my nieces microATX build the only annying thing was the case fans but wasnt mine so i wasnt bothered
