512Mb 7900GT : Is there one? Is it worth it?

You can get cheaper 7900 GT's than that and a price drop seems to be on the horizon.
The 7900's clock better than x1800 and as you have said Sithuk they run cooler and use less power and with the overclocking headroom that the the x1800 simple does not have in the same quantity you will find that the 7900 GT would leave the x1800 behind.
Plus the fact this leaves the SLI option open that out performs Xfire anyway.

There is quite a significant drop in power consumption. With our 3D Mark tests, the 7900GTX did not even consume up to 100w of heat. In fact the new flagship card of NVIDIA consumes 50% less power than the ATi's X1900XTX equivalent. On top of this, the 7600GT consumes just a bit over 50 watts of power, impressive record for a 12 pipe-lined 560MHz clocked card!

The XFX 7800 GT runs at 560MHZ/ 1650MHz
This is faster memory than some GTX's and yet i is just the same Card as the standard 7900 GT just factory overclocked.
I will be really suprised If my 7900 does not overclock to these speeds and beyond.

Those are heavily speed binned. They get all the cards and test them basically. The ones which work at the higher speed on stock volts get put into the OC models and everything else will be sold as normal. Don't forget, nV does not supply them with OC cores, they just supply them with a bunch of cores. The ones tha make the grade are binned and the ones that don't left as they are. They will only do this until they have made the prerequisite number of OC models so there are a few that slip the net untested, and these are the good clcokers.easyrider said:

bios flashing can void warranty your quite right, but not always... it seems sapphire have been content to take back a number of modded GTO2`s due to the fact that the GTO2 now comes with 16 pipes enabled as standard.
overclocking doesn’t void warranty for the most part though it does depend on the manufacturer, usually any manufacturer that supplies an overclocking utility with the card is fine with it.
Volt moddings serious and dangerous stuff when you’ve got to do it at the hardware level, and to volt mod a 7900GT your either mad or rich.
after market cooling, your card pops, you put the original cooler back on and send it off, if you do it right then there is very little chance the manufacturer will even question it.
sure in an honest world all these may void warranty, but no ones going to own up and say p.s. "I did this to it"
where as a hardware volt mod isn’t exactly easy to hide if its a major mod...
