5830 Pushed Back To Feb 5th, and Will Be Expensive

AMD has decided to launch Radeon HD 5830 a bit later than we belived, so the new date has been pushed all the way to February 5th. The possible price is $239 and even though it doesn’t sound very attractive, it is still much better than $299 pricetag on Radeon HD 5850 cards or $289.99 with the recent USA price drops. The card will end up with DirectX 11 support and will sit on top of Radeon HD 4770 generation, performance wise. The 5770 sells for $155 for the 1GB version but it will end up significantly slower than 5830. We still don’t know how many shaders they will cut out of the original RV870 chip.

Oh dear, not much cheaper than the 5850.

This happend with the 4830. By the time it actually arrived, the 4850 was 'old' and dropping in price.

its just about 20% cheaper in RRP, though the 5850's aren't selling for RRP(ok haven't been not checked in a while) and if they launch at RRP like the 5850/5870 have it will be more than 20% cheaper, if maxed out overclocks its only 10% less than a 5850 in peformance, its a great card.

Depending on how important shader performance is, or more specifically what level of shaders you need to not be shader limited(because the 5850 certainly isn't) it might be overclocked, almost right ontop of a 5850. The lowest it will go shader wise is likely 1120, if its 1280 sp's and lower clocks, but still overclocks just as well I reckon it will be very very close to a 5850.

Likewise if people start buying 5830's instead, 5850 demand and 5870 demand will reduce which will also cause their prices to come back down.

Prices are coming down though. 5870's and 5850's are within a few quid of RRP's now.
