On the wagon, sorta
Ok upgrading my minitor to a 28" and the 8800 isnt going to cut it, at the moment i run a e6300 @ 3Ghz, im wanting to drop a 5850 in but will i see a botlekneck, wasnt really thinking about a cpu upgrade yet but if i have too i could i suppose.

wouldn't be *too* bad, would try and clock it a bit further though as you would still see some gains up to the 3.4/3.6ghz mark. Above that there's pretty much no difference

28"? That's 2560x1600 or so? Clocking the E6300 up a bit would help but at that resolution the GPU is going to be doing nearly all the work.

Yeh thats right its the hanns-g if i was going for the 30" res id be looking at a full i5/i7 overhaull anyway for the price of that monitor.
the e6300 wont clock any further, not sure if its a chip/board or memory restriction but it refuses to go any higher. board is a p35-ds3r and memory is 4gb of corsair xms2, its a c2d duo heyday machine sort of thing.

Yeah 3GHz will be fine, if you get some spare cash a Q6600 would be a good buy, your mobo should get it up to 3.4-3.6GHz regardless of VID.

Or of course there are always the wolfdales....can get an E7200 -E7400 for 50ish and that will do 3.8-4GHz.
