My cards are running 775/1125, I'm sure I could get more out of them if needed, but I'm half toying with the idea of selling them and getting a single 6970 2GB. Will be mainly for BF3 at 1920*1200.

Am I likely to see any noticeable boost in performance?

Currently using the following settings:

It's 50 fps + most of the time but sometimes I do get a bit of slow down. I'm not sure if the settings are optimal visually and performance wise either, so any pointers toward getting more from them would be great.

Also, which 6950 cards are unlocking? As that may be another (cheaper) option.

1gb of vram is not enough, my gtx 580 used 1.4gb of vram with everything om ultra, no msaa and motion blur off I world get 65-75fps.

With 4xmsaa and motion blur on, I would lose 10fps.

The only time that my gtx 580 used less then 1gb of vram is at the loading screen hehe

In case you don't realise, there's little point in using MSAA instead of FXAA in BF3.

Getting a single 6970 would be a downgrade, yes. The game will like the extra VRAM, but that's it. There's not really any single-GPU card at the moment that'll offer a boost - a 580 with a bit of an overclock would be about the same, but probably not noticeably better.

1GB will be fine, any well programmed engine will adjust its VRAM usage accordingly - someone with a 6950/70 will probably see higher VRAM usage than you did. It should only be an issue at higher res when the engine can't scale back its usage enough which is when you get fps that nosedive.

TLDR: the extra VRAM won't make up for the lost performance of going from 5850cfx to the 6950.
