5850 or 6850?

dont do something now that you will regret later on........(i have done this many times) save up and go for the 6950 and flash it to a 6970, now that is something you wont regret

you guys have MADE me want to buy the 6970 now lol , off to selling my 5750 , shame i can access the MM on here yet

For the little extra over your max budget, it's well worth it. You'll be thanking us when you've got your new card ripping through all the titles with it outlasting the 5850/6850 due to it being more powerful.

If you do not want to play about with the BIOS swap to make the 6950 into a 6970 it's still a faster card over the 5850/6850. If you wanted to wait and see others results after a few weeks on the new BIOS then your card will remain safe until you feel confident to try it.

crap, will the 6950 even fit into my storm scout :O

Edit: apparently the 69** series are 11" long and my storm scout only has 10.5" i think :(

i may be wrong though... that was just from a quick google search

woops i meant the 6950 lol

Awesome!

I think everyone agrees the 6950 is a very sound future proof high end investment :) amazing that it can unlock to a 6970 too.

dont worry casual, i started the same, i didnt want to spend more than £130 (i was gonna go for the gtx 460), but slowly my eyes creep up the benchmark charts!! :p

When flashing a 6950 bios to a 6970 does it change the stock voltage to that of the 6970 or do they both use the same stock voltage anyway?

That really is a great saving on nearly £100 if indeed it works which it clearly does by reading through the forum

If i had the money i would consider it but im glad in a way cos i dont wanna part from my asus 5850, i only game at 1600x900 but my clocks are 900/1100 at 1.137v which is not to bad i think :)

I'm tempted by the 6950, but with our Asus 5850's we are actually covered for overclocking within the warranty.

Flashing a 6950 to 6970 will invalidate the warranty so if anything goes wrong with the flash OR in a few weeks or months the card goes wrong, what's the chances of having it replaced?

Has anyone seen how well the Asus 6950 overclocks? it should have an unlocked bios via voltage tweak or using MSI's afterburner program? like we did with our 5850's?

Pity Overclockers doesnt have any Asus 5850's for sale, might be tempted to buy one - I don't shop anywhere else now, everywhere else has crap RMA procedures. :)

Spot on mate, i have looked everywhere for another Asus 5850 and the few that i found were £200+ still, shows that its still a great card and 1 of the best overclockers on the market imo
