i know there is properly threads on this already but im on my phone and would take a while to look...

ok so my question is, im about to order my new rig and buy a 5850... but will it be worth it as a few times i have heard about this fermi nvidia range...

when will this card be coming out?

is it still worth me getting the 5850 without it being old news and a waste of money in the next few months...?

thanks

I've been really happy with my 5850.

Depends what your expectations are i guess?

The 5850 is a beast, no doubt about it. Im running 3 montior setup at 5040 x 1080 and have yet to struggle playing any games at max settings. I love it to be honest. Dirt 2 I do need to turn a couple of settings down, but dont notice it looking any worse at that resolution.

Could i use some extra power? maybe.....is it worth the extra money. NOOOOOOO

Will the 5870/5970 be worth it for higher resolutions and future game titles - probably yeah.

Get a 5850 now and another later if needed is my opinion. Again depends a lot on what you want to get out of it, which you didnt really say ;)

Ask yourself if you really need a new rig now.
Fermi doesn't look set until the end of nVidia's Q1 (march/april) so we're looking at march time for benchmarks. Until their out you won't know what you might be missing out on. If you want a new rig NOW the 5850 is a solid card!

yea i need a rig now really can't really wait... but if its going to worth getting that much and would regret buying a 5850...then i would buy a cheaper card for now that will do me until release of fermi

to save money really hate wasting it :)

what does the rest of your new rig look like? (or planning on looking like?)
and what parts do you have atm? can there be any crossover to keep costs down?

5850 now. They have come down in price aswell. Cracking little card with overclocking headroom. Ocing to 5870's performance and saving £100. You won't be disapointed.

Is the 5850 fast enough for what you want ? If not then don't buy it.

Its not like the release of the gt380 will make it any slower.

i am on my phone so i can not link my other thread for the rig someone suggested for me... if you look on my thread called match or better this spec i think it was bjn who posted the parts.. if not him its the last linked basket paste pic on there

if you could have a look would be most grateful

thanks

With the setup that bJn did for you the 5850 is probably your best bet.
they generally have a lower power consumption than the nVidia cards and you won't want to push that PSU too far.
Good luck with the build!
