Which one?

5870 - Is cheap right now @ 180
6870 - I don't know how this rates in performance against the 5870
6950 - Taking ages to release

I am planning to buy an i7 system but having problems choosing the graphic card

We need a little more info to give some hints - specifically, budget, screen resolution, current power supply, what's the PC used for?

Short version:
If you're not gaming on this PC, any of those are overkill and a much cheaper option will be available.
6950 - indications are it will be a beast of a card and cost at least £250. Not much else known until release.
6870 - similar speed to the 5870 (mostly slightly slower in benchmarks, but not much in it). Slightly kinder on power consumption and some new additions than 5870 (HDMI 1.4 I think) but all in all pretty much an optimised, very slightly slower 5870.
5870 - Amazing card for the price - I ordered one on Friday before they all disappear! :)

If you have over £200 to spend, wait for the 69xx series to launch. If you have under £200 to spend then buy a 5870 (they are SO cheap at the moment!) or a 6870 if you don't want a card that has been discontinued.

I think with your budget being £300 you should wait until the nv gtx570 and amd 6950 are released. They will offer you the best performance for your money imo. You should know which to get in the next week or so.

I need a good graphics card since the pc is used for gaming too.

Pc specs I will be getting

i7 950
Asus p6t se
6Gb corsair
850w corsair psu

The inmproved scaling in Xfire with the 6870 and DP 1.2 also the 6870 beats the 5870 depending on game and vice versa

Its always like this in December.Tons of hardware coming out, they get delayed and you have to wait more to buy the newest hardware.

I don't know if i will wait for the cpu but for the graphics card is worth it.

An i7 is more then enough for gaming I think.

How much will sandybridge cost?

Sorry to hijack your thread need to answer the same question my self.

Looking to get the
i5 CPU,
4GB 1333mhz / 1600mhz ram

and either the 6890 or 470 but not sure which one to get. Also when do the ATI 69XX series come out?

Cheers.

saying sorry doesn't help the fact that your hijacking his thread ... go make a new one. it's not like it's not going to get answered, it's a very heated common topic atm.
