5970 shows 1gb of memory !?

Not in Crysis it won't. There are a few games out there with max eye candy where 1gig is framebuffer limited at high res. Lots of reviews have shown this.

GTA IV and a few others too I believe.

Indeed. From what I've read ATI cards handle memory very efficiently but on the likes of Crysis,Warhead,Metro,GTAIV and a few others at 2560x1600 with high levels of AA and other effects, the extra ram does give a small performance difference, even more so at eyeinfinity res's. In the likes of Crysis you can actually run out of memory with a 1gig card depending on res and how you have the game setup.

but the card does have 2gb on board, doesn't matter how the ram is used, and that in practice its only 1gb, there still is 2gb of physically ram on the card.

so its not really just a marketing thing, but listing whats actually on the card
but it should state on the box that the usage is 1GB or they should put 1GB per core.

but as it is now they've added them together and put 2GB which confusing some people has they think they can use 2GB.

but like has been said, it does have 2gb, and it use its 2gb, it just doesn't use it in the same way a single card would.

its a high end card, that only enthusiasts will likly to buy, unless u have more money than sense :P

and most of them should understand how dual cards work

yes it as 2GB if u add both together but dual cards/crossfire doesn't work like that.

it as 1GB per core = 1GB usage/available still..

if the card had 2GB per core then yes it would have 2GB usage/available...

people are interested what ram is available to the usage on the card not whats physically on the card.
