I need advice on upgrading from my Athlon XP 3000 (dont laugh), ATI X1950Pro (AGP), 2gig DDR to a system that will be ready for games like Crysis and DX10. My budget is £600 MAX.
Basically I want a new motherboard, CPU, Graphics card and RAM.

Which CPU is best to go for, an Intel Core 2 Duo or a Athlon X2 AM2 ?
I think the 8800 is a must cos of DX10
As for which RAM and mobo to get Ive no idea.
Can someone help me total up to £600.

What is your current PSU?

You are looking at a 1GB ram minimum £70 ish (GeIL on special this week only!)
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX21GB6400UDC)

GeForce 8800GTS is around the £270
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Mobo aroudn the £80 mark
Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Core 2 Duo £120
Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - (Retail=HS&F)

=£540.

Could spend more money on the CPU maybe

youll need 2 gb of ram if your gaming especially when looking at dx10/future proofing

I agree however ram is cheap so he could get more ram in a months time maybe, granted it may not be on special then. I think the psu would need upgrading to make a stable system.
