£600 PC with R3 case or similar and SSD

I am looking to build a new pc for my dad.

I have the R3 case and love it, nice and quiet. Plus the SSD is awesome for the OS and applications.

The machine would mainly be used for photo editing and general usage (word, excel, internet), but he has also expressed an interest in playing some games, mainly FPS type games, left for dead etc (nothing to new i wouldn't have thought). More than anything it need to be fast and quiet.

Everything I spec seems to go well over his £600 budget and I think this is because I am speccing to high for what he actually needs (i.e. 170 quid GPU). You help would be most useful.

Edit - He has monitor, keyboard, mouse - so would just need base unit and OS (Win 8)

but you could go cheaper and get this. Though i recommend staying with the i5 as it will last you a lot longer, or you could just upgrade to i5 when needed.

Cool thanks linwelin , I will look into those, when I said R3 I should have been more specfic its the Fractal Design R3 (although it looks like OCs no longer sell this) but is was little cheaper than the Silverstone Raven 3.

The Ivy Bridge i3 and i5, with one been nearly half the price of the other, does the i5 offer nearly double performace in all areas? He will be performing lots of photo manipulation.

I was originally going to hit up a 7770 as its cheaper by £40 but if he uses CUDA cores then Nvidia would be a better bet and the 560 is the cheapest Nvidia which is decent for gaming really. Other than the 460's etc which OcUK don't stock.

i3 currently is a good little processor everything really. Gaming wise only single core heavy MMo's and BF3 multi 64 man servers really makes it struggle. It has hyperthreading so it can utilise 4 threads on its 2 cores for things like video editing etc.
