6000 series confirmed for next week

I really hope we don't see a completely ridiculous naming convention where the new model is slower than the previous gen one.
6870 slower than the 5870? Sigh. It'd be worse than Nvidia's constant 8800GT rehashes...

Can someone remind which parts are being released next week, I'm the market for either the 6870 or 6950 and have up to £250 to spend?

ATi have said that the 6870 is their mid'ish range card. The 6970 is their new high end.

Not that big a deal, esp for users of this forum that care to read up on it.

Might be for someone who knows jack & has no interest in pc components though. If they don't ask / do research first then it's their own fault.

Best way to think of it is below :

6850 : competing against the 768mb GTX 460

6870 : competing against the 1gb GTX 460

6950 : 5850 replacement

6970 : 5870 replacement

6990 - 5970 replacement

Whatever they call them is irrelevant really. It's performance + price that's important.

They could be called RxDipsy, RxLaaLaa, RxTinkyWinky & RxPo for all I care.

If RxPo happens to outperform a GTX480 by 25% for the same money, I don't really care what the card is called.

I wouldn't put it in my sig though :p

It could be a good thing that the new midrange card is named 6870 and not 6770, indicating that 'even' the new midrange is high powered enough to supercede the old generation 5870, doubt it tho :-P. . . we can but dream!

good time for ati to launch there next wave of cards, cod/moh and dnf demo and more coming round the corner.

Numbering scheme still odd, but will see and Nvidias 480gtx replacement coming december/january so will see how it goes.
