Afternoon
Got a BenQ XL2420B which I assume is either 120hz or 144hz depending on the model
It was a very long time ago since I had one of these and cant remember which cable is required
Is there a way to tell if HDMI is capable of outputting more than 60hz?
Failing that are all DisplayPort cables the same? able to output 120/144hz?
Someone help please :)

I dunno about later models but none of the XL2420 line supported 120+Hz over HDMI through the original release and the first revision - I know they did another model after that but I'm fairly sure it doesn't do high refresh on HDMI either.

Guessed as much
I remember having this monitor years ago and pretty sure it was either DP or DVI-D only
Ordered a DP 1.2, should be enough for a 120/144hz @ 1080p
Will report finding today :)

At least yours can use DP... I have a BenQ XL2410T and just bought a RTX 2070 super. Unfortunately the monitor only likes DVI and HDMI and the card only likes HDMI or DP!

That turned a monitor that didn't need replacing to a monitor that does need replacing!

Guys its safe to say everything working as it should
DisplayPort 1.2 cable is doing wonders
Good thing I have delided and liquid cooled 8400, inside msi trident 3 there is no cooling :D
1660ti is able to handle this in world of tanks on max settings (120hz)

You need Displayport 1.4 to be sure.
You can convert between Displayport and DVI.
Pretty sure even the 1.2 is good for 1080p @ 144hz
Mine runs 1080p at @120hz but thats the monitor as its revision one, exact same i had YEARS ago :D

That's unfortunate as its a pretty good monitor even after all these years!
