Cheers for the replys, on the dvd front... Every £ counts ;) hehe

Any other thoughts on the system, only 1gb of ram... no sound card and 7900 gs?

1 vote for the GS which is good :)

The onboard sound on the ds3 is very good so i think the sound card is definately something to cut out of your budget for the time being, you can always add one in at a later date. If it can be done i advise trying your best to stretch to 2gb.

If it is for gaming then 2Gb is desirable for the newer games, not sure what CSS plays like with 1 or 2Gb of ram as I never play it. Oblivion, Battlefield 2, assuming 2142 as well all need 2Gb to stretch their legs and show what they have got.

The quantum jump in horse power will be very noticable non the less. ;)

Did you remove the XFi Music from the list, if so you could get a 1950 Pro with some of the money saved. The Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB an extra £8

Yeah as it's still £24 under budget I'd be ditching the DVD-ROM, upgrading to a x1950pro and then start getting frustrated that I can't fit 2gig RAM in.

Could probably save a few quid on the case/psu (it's a relatively 'cheap' system, afterall) but even then not enough without pushing the budget up a bit higher.

what exactly is the need for 2 dvd-rw's?

if you're doing a straight dvd copy, doesnt it still first copy it to the HD anyway, then burn?

or have things changed?

As he wont be overclocking he will need the most cpu power he can get for the cash, and im thinking the E4300 is just another cut down version.

At the end of the day though, its his money and his choice. he doesnt know that much about PCs, he knows how to switch on and play a few games, if he started to overclock he probably wont have the knowledge required to do so.

I wouldnt say he is silly not to overclock... If he overclocks without knowing how to overclock or even use the bios then thats silly ;)
