Guys i got a 6600 GT Agp for my Dell. Its doesnt seem that much faster than the 9800pro i had. I play CSS and its here where i am judging this.

I got latest drivers. DirectX, chipset, BIOS etc everything.

Still the card seems slower than i expected.

The only thing i can think of is that my 230watt PSU is not giving it enough power. Could this be the problem? I am dutch so please forgive me if i am a dumbass. It cant be helped.

The 9800 Pro and 6600GT aren't actually all that different, in fact the 9800 Pro probably outperforms the 6600GT in some things. The 6600GT supports shader model 3.0 and features such as purevideo though.

Firstly I'd run 3dmark benchmarks and compare them online to see if your getting similiar scores to people with similiar specs. Secondly I'd get rid of that 230watt PSU, its too weak even for a 9800pro. A 350w or 400w, branded PSU would do fine.

Also remember that while the 6600GT is faster than the 9800pro, it only has 128bit memory bus width, compared to 256bit on the 9800pro, which means the differnece between the cards will get smaller as you up the resolution and AA filtering (with the 9800pro possibly overtaking the 6600gt in some cases).

problem is the 9800 does not have enough fillrate to saturate the memory bandwidth. the 6600gt is a lot faster than the 9800. take a look at this:

9800 has no chance these days.

Weird. I bought a 6600GT when they were released and benchmarks showed nothing like that, mostly on-par with eachother. Are they updated ones because of drivers etc.?

if you want AA and AF then both cards are not your cup of tea, thats where you step up to the heavy weight division.
When they came out, they handled AA and AF just fine. I played Battlefield 2 on my 6600GT in 1280x960 with 4xAA and 16xAF on medium settings for a long time before I felt the need to upgrade.

If we're talking about Quake IV and Oblivion though, then yeah AA and AF is pretty much a non-option.

yea im on about the newer games such as fear, quake 4, oblivion etc.
Aye, in that case looking at non-AA/AF benchmarks would be a much more sensible approach. Assuming the OP isn't slapping on AA/AF then his card is definitely underperforming.

What do you mean when they came out?

The 9800pro was a good card when that came out but I never remember the 6600GT being good?

You don't? The 6600GT was the dog's round ones in terms of bang for buck when it came out. 6800GT and 6600GT were the only two choices, period, until ATi started with the GTO series.

The 6600GT is very good without AA/AF because it has a high clockspeed and isn't so good with AA/AF because it has a 128bit memorybus.

Back to the problem, maybe you are CPU limited or V-Sync is enabled?

Me also think the same, because the 9800PRO's a very capable card. Maybe post up rest of spec or do like titaniumx3 suggested & compare with similar spec machine/s
