and a 7600 GS is faster the the 6800 GT.

incorrect. the 6800gt is faster than the 7600gs. i've owned both on agp so i do know. :p

the 7600gs has 12 pipes and ddr2 memory. the 6800gt has 16 pipes and ddr3 memory. :)

back on topic, i'd get a 7600gs over the 6600gt definitely. :)

Apologies, my bad. Nothing beats experience I guess :)

6800gt is faster than the 7600gs, BUT my 6800nu unlocked to 16/6 and overclocked is around the same speed as a 7600gs, possibly a bit slower, could be due to slower ram and core speed compared to 6800gt.

this has gone way off course. the op ased if the 6600gt was better than a 7600gs but this turned into a 7600gs vs 6800gt thread.

read the above review, you will see that the 7600gs is better than the 6600gt in every way possible, and is more of a challenge to a 6800nu. then again from my experiences the 7600gs is faster than the 6800nu.

Well i ended up getting a cheap 6600GT 256Mb of the MM. m actually very suprised at how well it copes with the latest games. Prey, Doom3, Quake 4 all play nicely 30FPS+ at 1280x1024 on high details with 2xAA and 2xAF. Half life 2 is even better playing max details with 4xAA and 4xAF at over 60FPS.

This will do nicely for now i think :)

Scores a whole 1770 in 3DM06 which is pretty good i think for a 2 gen old card and a single core CPU that wont clock past 2.3Ghz because of lack of overclocking features on the mobo

That is pretty good for a 6600GT, I get an average of 25 fps on doom3 high settings, with some pretty bad slow down in places, on my 6800 GT. My CPU isn't as good as yours though...

Hopefully I'll see a little improvement with my conroe/8800 rig.
