I'm currently running a 6800 Ultra AGP and wondered if I'd see much of a gain going for the 7900GT PCI-e?

I read the AnandTech article and on max settings 1280 they managed 49fps avg which isn't exactly awesome?

If you're going to overclock it, and the card you have now isnt good enough in your opinion, then yes.
If you're happy with the performance of the 6800 Ultra, then you might as well wait for geforce 8 or the next ATI cards.

Put your 6800Ultra card on the bay for a high buynow price..And if it sells then buy the 7900gt..

(But am guessing you need a new motherboard and cpu as well for the 7900gt card)

And what core & memory speed did the AnandTech article test the 7900gt at...default is only 450/1320..almost all of them should clock way higher then this.

The 7900GT performs about on par with the 7800GTX 256. This was released as the new high end card after the 6800Ultra, offering a sizable boost

I'd say it's more than worth it! :)

I noticed that AGP Ultra's still fetch £160-200 on the bay!

AnandTech did indeed have the 7900 at stock speeds.

I'm running the ASRock ULi board so I have both AGP and PCI-e with an 144 opty at FX55 speeds. :)

AnandTech show stock for stock the 7900 is a little faster and has higher overclocking potential so you could be right, might feel like a big boost once clocked.

I think AGP is a limiting factor as overclocking my Ultra doesn't really reap much of a reward in the FPS department. :(

Do a search and you found a well know uk website that sell the 7900gt for £179 ex VAT and 7900gtx for £297 ex VAT.

the 7800 and 7900 card give far better perfomance with AA and AF enabled that what the 6800 cards did. A motherboard upgrade and a 7900GT card will give you far better gaming performance. You WILL sell your 6800 ultra crad on ebay if you put a buy in now price for 200! There is a serious lack of high performance AGP cards right now...that why companies are releasing new AGP cards now for near 300...and they will sell!
