Anyone done any of the above upgrades?

Currently have a galaxy glacier 6800 i bought from here about 16months ago, has served me well however lately im playing games more lately at mediocre settings yet after seeing them on review sites with all the eye candy on i feel im missing out

However im not sure on what to go for? At the moment i have a 17"tft @ 1280x1024 but im hoping to eventually buy one that does at least 1600x1200 when the prices come down - also il be keeping the card for at least 2+ years.

Am i best waiting to see what the 7900's are like first or going straight for the 1900? & what percentage performance diff will there be going from 6800>X1800XT/X1900XT?

Thanks

I went from a 6800U to X1900XT @ 666/1600

I play at 1600x1200, and as much AA and AF it can handle

BF2: 6800U could do full quality, 2x AA and 4xAF, my CPU is mow limiting things at 4x AA and 16xAF with the X1900XT.

Its just mental quick.

If you want to do it, do it!

Well i only play BF2 @ 1152x864 medium settings 2AA and god knows what AF and get about 40fps - what are you getting with the X1900 @ 1600x1200?

Was thinking on waiting till april when i get the interest from my savings but the temptations getting a bit too much! and the fact that when i upgrade in a year or so's time to dual core il get even more out of the card is swaying me aswell.

Although, which ones best to get? Sapphire XT @ £346 or the XT-X @ £375? Read a lot of divided opinions on them both regarding overclocks :-\

I brought the connect3d x1900xt-x and am running it at ati overdrive max settings of 690/800..

Getting a card that will overclock well is really down to pure luck.

ATI's pricing cant be beat at present.

Id go for ... great price for this fantastic card ...
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-048-PC) £276.07 Including VAT

If you really want even better performance than this card ... as some early tests show that Sapphire cards appear to be the best overclockers ...
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-112-SP) £346.57 Including VAT

I was going to go for the X1800 but i read somewhere that the X1900 was miles ahead in quite a few games? AO3 was one of the main ones i remember.

The only thing putting me off buying one is all the gefluffle about the 7900's being priced at around the same/being faster and that ATI are lowering their prices on the X1900's too end of march?

argh, what to do!

Hi there

I've seen two 7800 GTX 512MB in SLI running games on a 30" DELL, it was impressive!! Plus it scored approx 14,000 in 3D Mark 2005......

Then I watch two X1900's in Crossfire running games on a 30" DELL, the image quality was a lot better than the 7800's and the playback was smoother. Plus this was scoring close to 16,000 in 3D Mark 2005.....Then work out that it cost approx £300 - £400 less too for a faster system with better image quality.

I am not commenting on 7900's, but everything on the web at the moment is just rumours and guesses, but one thing for sure I doubt NVIDIA will be able to beat the value of the X1900's but X1900's are beginning to go up in price now which can be seen at some competitors but OcUK is keeping its prices down. :)

Well running maximum quality possible on X1900's seems to have little hit on performance......

So, it appears ATI cards will rise in price. So buy now i would say.
(There have been many suggestions here that ATI felt their cards were priced too low, considering the performance they offer).
ATI have better IQ with little performance hit.
7900 series wont be priced cheaper by all likelyhood either.
