The only confusing part here is, hundreds, well thousands of people on the net all listening to 50 different rumours and pushing them all together and then having a go at AMD for horrible naming.
AMD have said NOTHING about the cards, theres entirely nothing confusing, names don't matter, 5 series names don't matter, 5 series names make no sense in general 5670/5570 both have 400 shaders, 5 series names make no sense and aren't directly comparable to 4 series naming.
A 4770 is almost as fast as a 4850, a 5770 is no where near a 5850, any generational similarity(4870x2-5970) is that, the KEY factor is first number, generation, next number which core the card is based on, higher the number, faster it is, the next number, which level of performance of that core.
Thats been the same for hmm, since the 9700 pro, seriously, where is this confusing?
When AMD actually LAUNCH the cards and tell us info about them, we'll know exactly how fast each one is and how much they cost they you do the incredibly complex thing of...... working out which one you want to buy.
Personally I still think the idea they will call a single top end card a 6970, and a dual gpu top end card a 6990, almost laughable, if its true, I'll laugh at AMD for making it sound so utterly crap in comparison. Its more likely to back to 6970x2 naming, or everything thats been rumoured is simply rubbish.
