6870 audio / AV Reciever help

Hi guys,

I'm using my ATI 6870 to output sound to my Sony STR-DH500 which is working great bar one problem. If I select the speaker layout to 5.1 in Windows it locks the amp and I'm unable to select multi stereo (what I use for music)

I can get around this by switching between layouts when I want to watch a movie and listen to music but it's frustrating.

When I was using optical, if the source was encoded with 5.1 then it would just automatically select it with no need to configure speaker layout.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem myself with my Radeon 6970 and my Onkyo TX-SR608.

I found no way around switching the speaker config, but i did find a neat little program to makes it much easier.

I use a program called soundswitch (https://github.com/therms/soundswitch/downloads) which you can use to quickly change between stereo and surround/5.1 modes. You can set a key combo to change the modes (mines the default ctrl+alt+F9) which then changes the windows speaker settings over for you instantly without having to trawl through the windows settings yourself.

For me Digital content (Dolby digital/DTS) stills works fine in surround even if i have stereo selected but i personally use the program to switch modes for when i'm gaming and need PCM surround.
