Hi
So i got my minidp to vga adapter today and i managed to get eyefinity working at the resolution i want (3840X1024)
The only problem is if i change the resolution or add bezel correction (i know its like the same thing) or even boot a game like dirt2 which refeshes the signal the dp monitor gets no signal until i restart.(ive tried replugging the dp to dp socket and ive turned off the monitor and turned it back on and ive unplugged and replugged the monitor none of these work.) So basically i added bezel correction, and the dp screen goes black and has no signal, i restarted and it works fine. I can live with this however with games like dirt2 where it refreshes the signal theres no way to sort it. I dont think the problem is with the adapter as it works at the res i want fine, i think its more of a card issue, what do you think? Driver problem? Bios problem?
Ill try anything within reason so even if you think your idea is silly please let me know

I have a 6870 too with a DP to VGA adapter and it does the same thing. Everytime i activate the screen attached to the adapter, that screen goes blank until i restart.

No matter if i set a group or if i extend desktop to that screen, always does it.

Your card is fine.

Do you reckon its a driver issue then? Because i used a vga to dp on my 5870 and that was fine and ran perfect.
Or have you found a fix?

Is the adaptor an active display adaptor?

I read somewhere that if it isn't an active display adaptor than you can only run 2 monitors properly while using the 2 DVI ports.

I believe all dp to vga adapters are active as it converts the digital signal to analog because unlike dvi dp doesnt contain any analog pins. I have taken the adapter apart and it does have a circuit board and chip and on the site i got it from it says it has an integrated dac for the conversion, ive just purchased a mini dp to dp adapter so i can use the adapter i was using on my 5870 as i know that definately worked flawlessly. :)

edit: ive emailed HIS support so ill see what they say, but no doubt they will just say use a validated dongle...

basically its when ever the signal to the dp monitor changes or gets refreshed it just looses it the other 2 dvi monitors fire up but the dp just says no signal. @anikilator1980 a quicker way i found out today is just put your comp to sleep and turn it on again, much quicker. It must reset the power to the dp port or something, still no luck though. Does anyone know if i can launch dirt2 without it refreshing the signal? Like the black fullscreen just after the logo is when i lose it :(

I've just bought a mini dp to dp adapter so i can use my old dp to vga adapter that definately worked with the 5870, so if no luck i guess it will be down to drivers. Also if all goes wrong i can use the mini dp to dp to use the sapphire active adapter on overclockers but from amazon as its only 16.99 with free del :D

Still no luck, HIS couldnt fine the answer so ive given up and bought a mini dp to dp adapter and a sapphire dp to dvi dongle off play.com
:(

Still no luck with this, HIS sent the whole discussion about the error off to amd but still no luck with any of the drivers which have come out, anyone else having this problem?

My friend had a Sapphire Active DP to SL-DVI-D Adapter Cable with his 5850 for Eyefinity & it gave loads of problems so i lent him my Sapphire Active DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter the use that uses the USB power & it started up without a hitch.

Its not a driver related from problem because you should be getting a image even before windows & even be able to get into the bios.

I think its down to the Monitors, mobo & GPU firmware as to whether the non powered version give issues or not.

The fact is, is that it works in the bios and booting windows and even in windows it works fine. It even works for codmw2 and armaII cos they dont reboot the resolution for the credits as you start up the game, however virtually every other game does -_-

Now that i read your first post properly it could be driver in your case but its not one that i have come across.

with cat 10.12 the 3rd monitor doesnt turn on at all gonna roll back my drivers... In the meantime waiting for my apple mini dp to dl dvi to come...

Well my apple active dl adapter came today, absolute bargain at £10 from the us and it works, however still some buggy driver issues when i set it up but i got it working in the end. :)

Im going to say it and you probably won't like it, but 6870 and VGA eyefinity doesn't mix, i had the same problem your having and it just would'nt work - i spent over £90 on various adapters trying to figure it out. In the end i just brought two new monitors - DVI-HDMI & it works perfectly now.

The bottom DVI port (looking at the card from inside the pc) just does'nt like VGA, the top one works fine but the bottom does'nt. PLEASE don't waste your time and money just buy either DVI or HDMI output monitors.

Hope this helps if not please don't flame me im just trying to help as when i had this problem no one had this problem therefore there were no solutions for me.
