I thought I would post a small video of Battlefield 3 multiplayer Caspian Border Gameplay performance of my unlocked 6950 shaders @ 6970 clocks in Crossfire.

Benchmarks are all over the place with many discrepancies imo.

There are a few posts saying that 6970 Crossfire is not enough @1080p with Ultra settings, well you can decide for yourselves now.

Specs are:

Battlefield 3 AMD Crossfire Performance
Full Caspian 64 Player Map
Ultra Settings
In game fps using console command:
'Render.DrawFps 1 Boolean'

Amd 6950>70 Crossfire @ 880MHz/1350Mhz
Catalyst 11.10 preview2 + Cap3 Win7
2500K@ 4.5GHz
MSI Z68A-GD55-G3
16GB Corsair Vengeance Red 1866 Mhz
128GB Crucial M4-Windows
120GB Corsair Force 3-BF3
Windows Pagefile is disabled(I don't know if this helps with the stuttering but I've never had any)

This may help if you are trying to decide whether 6950/70's Crossfire is for you or whether it's worth adding a second card.

Yes the videos not centred, that wasn't the point.

P.s I thought the missus was not bad for her first shot of the tank!:p

I honestly dont get that far off with msaa disabled and motion blur off (makes me feel ill anyway). im getting 60-70fps with 1 6950 (toxic to 6970) so in fairness 2x cf6970's should smash the game to bits lol

@OP - what? 6970 xfire struggling? Something SERIOUSLY wrong there if so. My 570 gets over 60 frames on very high settings in BF3. Your xfire setup should EAT that game alive no problem.

^ Can you point out where it's struggling , I can't see it myself, most of the time it's 70+fps on ultra in a full 64 player map without any stuttering.

Comparing 'very high' with Ultra misses the point don't you think, try yours on Ultra and then compare.

bit random but what PSU are you using? as i'm thinking about adding a second 6950>70 to crossfire with my unlocked 6950@6970 speeds and shaders.

i currently have a thermaltake toughpower 750w but not sure if it can cope...

running i7 920@4ghz.

more on topic>>>> my unlocked 6950 runs this game pretty smoothly to be fair but i am running at 1680x1050, but i do have everything on ultra, blur off, 4xmsaa and i usually get anywhere between 40-120 fps depending on the map.... although i have notice a drop when scoped in.... especially on caspian whilst using the 12x... drops to about 25fps :( and seeing as i might be getting a 1080p monitor shortly been thinking about beefing it up abit to cope with the extra pixels :)

I use dxtory to cap my FPS at 50 running ultra at 1680x1050 with both anti-aliasing modes maxed out and it never ever drops a single frame anywhere in the game even during smoke-heavy scenes.

Why do I cap it you wonder? Well, I don't like the frequent dips from 200+ to 50, I can tell easily with this game. At 50 it's nice, smooth and consistent all the way without being distracting. Even with this system it doesn't quite stay at 60fps 100% of the time (it will drop if something explodes repeatedly in your face, such as when you're being shelled by several tanks at the same time) so I leave it at 50.

edit: the OP's video is also showing frequent drops to 50fps, with the exact same system as mine except for double the ram. It's why I just cap it instead :)

Cap 4 with the preview 2's has gave the minimums a bump, along with running faster clocks(the video was intended as an indication of stock 6970 Crossfire performance remember) minimums are above 60fps, maximum ~135fps, average is about ~88fps.

I'm using a Seasonic 760w, but I have seen others here using 650w with 6950>70 CrossFire so you should be fine.

LOL.

6970 is more than enough to run the game at ultra.

How do I know? Because that is what I am running.

My FPS is always around the 70/90 mark and the absolute lowest I've seen it go it 60.

THIS

2560 x 1440 @ solid 50-70 maxxed

CF6950 setup myself and experiencing a lot higher frames than you are. Either way if the game is playing smooth enough for you that's fine :).. I'm on the latest 'preview' ati drivers, no cap installed.

CF setup is definitely worthit for anyone thinking about going for it!

Looks very decent performance, considering my 6990 is unplayable at 5760x1080 on Ultra (I know, eyefinity vs 1080p, but unplayable vs silky smooth on what should be much faster hardware)

Looks smoother than mine.

To be honest, mine doesn't feel laggy but there is definitely some very small stutter here and there. I don't understand it as the framerate is solid 60fps most of the time(I run v-sync on).

I am running 2 x 6950@70 with an i5 2500k @ 4.2 Ghz, 8GB G.Skill PC12800 ram, 128GB Samsung 470 SSD and 11.10 WHQL with the CAP 4 installed.

I am running 2560x1440 though.

Really glad you accidently bumped this as I'm really considering getting another 6970.

I'd imagine I would have to lower the MSAA to x2 though to get minimum fps of 100 or to 0xMSAA for 120fps for my 120Hz screen which is why im even thinking about it.

That and the good deal on the MSI card atm...
