Hi All,

I just purchased a HIS IceQx 2gb 6950 GPU.

Arrived this morning and have installed, works first time, not that I was expecting an issue, but I have a display on the screen.

Great I though. Until I tried what I bought it for..... BF3. loaded the game up on my Low graphics settings I was using with my 4870 1gb and fps is stuck at 60 and grass is being rendered as I ran.

So, strange i thought, So I loaded COD Black ops, which I also ran on my 4870. Again fps stuck at 60 on medium graphics.

I am shocked and bewildered. Can anyone suggest a reason as to why at all?

Any comments welcomed

What are the rest of your system specs?

Have you installed the latest drivers from the AMD website?

If vsync is set to on in the game it will run at the monitor refresh rate, usually 60fps. Have you tried increasing the settings?

Card should easily run high on BF3 at good fps

why do you have it on low settings? thats why your grass is being rendered near you and your stuck at 60fps (vert sync left on as well?)

use adequate graphics settings and you should be fine

Rest of system is Q6600 @ 3.0ghz 8gb RAM 1tb spinpoint HDD

same with Vsync on or off

I was hoping it was going to be comfortable on BF3 :(

make sure in game and in your cc settings that v sync is turned off.

then take bf3 and cod off the low settings and put it on something that will actually show a difference. high with minimal AA i imagine. cod if the rest of your system spec is decent should be on highest settings.

from how i've read it your running the games on the same settings as your old card and expecting a visual difference?

Thanks for reply, I have tried putting settings up but always 60fps and seems to be really struggling whatever settings gfx is on (high, low or med)

Before you took out your 4870 did you uninstall the drivers? And then after installing the 6950 did you install the 11.12 set of drivers (or 12.1 preview drivers) from AMD's website. I play battlefield 3 with most settings on ultra (make sure you turn off HBAO) and my 6950 handles the game fine at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and also on my old 1920 x 1200 monitor.

Yep, Uninstalled everything to do with old drivers then installed the 11.12

HBAO - is please?

I'm only running 1600 x 1050 so should be fine

I run BF3 on Ultra at a steady 70fps easily. Ive got the 6950 Toxic.

Chec the Engine Control Centre....it used to be called the Catalyst Control Centre hence the CCC....people should call it the ECC now i guess. (to do this righ click desktop and it will be your first option on the list.

On the left hand side there is a tab called "Gaming"...click it.

This will open a list of options where you can turn off vsync and AA etc....just have a look see what settings these are on. vSYNC will make you have constant 60fps.

It sounds like your clocks rates aren't being rampped up from their idle state. If you download MSI afterburner it has an overlay which you can use and see the clockrates whilst playing your games that will tell you if there ramping up or not.

OK

AA = 4x
AF = 16x
Tessellation - AMD Optimised
Texture filtering quality - Quality
Vertical Refresh - Off unless application specifies (its off in bf3)
AA mode = Performance (multi sample aa)
OPEN GL - Triple Buffering is off

Hope that helps

For reference i'm averaging 60fps in BF3 (ultra) with my 6950 2gb with no overclocks.
Does anyone think your 3gb of ram may be holding you back slightly. A lot of people have claimed BF3 uses approx 5gb?
