6970 Has 2GB of Ram

I don't think 1gb high end is enough, but 1.5 would be sensible, 2GB is something I hadn't considered as I forgot about the multiple monitor (eyefinity/surround) setup aspect. In that case 2GB is sensible as twist and raven suggest.

Razor: Soz, I don't help by responding to it, and making it worse :-(

ignoring all the bitching.

Most pc gamers are at way beyond console res. and most pc gamers want to keep the crisp image of a monitor as a pc monitor cains a 32" 1080p HD tv for pixel pitch let alone a 40". the only way to keep this is to buy a large resolution monitor (or three) and this instantly eats VRAM.

anyone who is gaming above 1080p and wants AA on a modern game is close to this limit. remember 1080p is still a large res to begin with and AA is a real killer for RAM.

not to mention eyefinity users who need 3 to 6 times the extra memory for each of their full HD or greater monitors using AA !

1gb pah !

i want 4gb :)

I'm sick of the bickering if I'm being honest guys.

TC.

Dude, don't lock the thread or anything. I just got some popcorn and enjoying fanboys making a **** out of themselves :D

But I guess as a mod it must get tiring reading the same old stuff all the time. Seems obvious there are like a few member who stick out as extreme fanboys. Just hand out some infractions or something :)

I just see it as a natural progression as more and more people use either a larger single monitor with better res or multi monitor setups this just seems to me sensible. Will it hit price of course it will but i am not convinced this will be an excuse to add a lot onto the price of the cards as some have done in the past. As always time will tell and oneday we will have facts that ruin so much for some on here.

Well if the HD 6970 will have 2 GB of memory *and* is 40% faster than a single HD 5870 then I would seriously consider buying one to replace my HD 5870 CrossFireX setup.

That might sound a bit mad but I've honestly been disappointed with CrossFireX because (a) 85% of the games I play either have negative scaling and, thus, run slower on two GPUs than one or only run on one GPU anyway; (b) I'm getting fed up of waiting months for ATI to support CrossFireX, only for them to disable CrossFireX for the game e.g. Blur, Darksiders, etc.; and (c) where games support CrossFireX, the scaling is underwhelming anyway except in a handful of (surprise, surprise) ATI-endorsed titles.

I can't wait switch back to a single powerful card solution because at least *all* of my games will benefit from it instead of just 15% of them plus they will be far less dependent on driver updates, an area which ATI is poor at anyway. SLI/CrossFireX are just a waste of money really considering that the majority of PC games are console ports.

It's 1gb effective usage at any one time, where as the rops and processors etc are simultaneously doubled, that's where the extra frames come from.
