7300GT DDR3 128mb vs 256mb

Hi all,

I'm currently look to get one of the 7300GT's but not sure which one to go for.

Both are DDR3 which 550 Core and 1400 Memory. Would the 256mb version card be much better than the 128mb version?

Has to be the 256mb in my eyes as your buy the GT for the extra grunt so get the better card.

128MB video memory is pants these days, 256MB video memory is a must. In a similar vein, 512MB is pointless, but that's not on topic.

Yes, which is exactly twice as pointless as 512MB is. Like I said though, it's off-topic, I shouldn't have even said it at all really.

I thought it was about on par with a 6600, and that card certainly didn't have the power to make 256mb worthwhile....

Remove any preconceptions you have about this card; It is at the bottom of the '7' series line-up - however if there was a value for money benchmark it would stomp over any card you can think of!

I bought two silenced them with zalmans and am happily gaming away with no problems for the last 8 weeks!

I highly rate this card, i also like the fact it doesnt use a molex so keeps cables away and temps down.

Seems to get around 2,400-2,500 points in 3DMark 06. My GeForce 6800 gets 1,945 when overclocked a bit, so it probably is able to make use of the extra memory to some extent.

The 7600GT is obviously a lot better, but for a cheap gaming PC, it seems fairly adequate. My 6800 is still capable (although it's being replaced by an 1800XT!).
