7600GT vs X800GTO2

amdv you seem to be arguing a case FOR dx9c cards with no thought. I dont understand why you areguing with us even though we are saying the same thing.

Sure I argue case for DX9C cards why they being made and more and more games using it, its a gain even if not as much as some think.

I aint arguing but you have gathered by now I cant rec anyone to buy a new card thats nearly 3 year old tech, and I wont change least Im persistant :p

price/performance, really. Before now, there's were no 9c cards that could touch the 9b cards for price/performance. the gto2's were so far ahead of everything else in the price rang (upto £150 - what most people would normally spend) that nobody cared how good 9c is (or isn't). 7800Gt's were >£200 back then and there were no 7600gt's.

Now, its a different story. The time has come where there is no need to choice a new 9b card over a 9c due to the release of the 7600gt in that price range. If i could get an x850 for ~£100 though, i'd still take it over a £150 7600gt:) i wouldnt mind saving £50:)

Correct and FPS in 3dmark 2005 aint real life, I know some the X800/850's score higher even than a 6800Ultra but who cares about a few FPS less if your running a newer function and that alone is saying what card is better as Inquirers says, the card thats near same speed or tad less but running a newer DX9C is the better card.
(take up with them please ) :p

But in this case you're flaming egt when he's posted a simple fact, it's not as if he's going on about SM3.0 water or anything

No wonder threads turn to the worse on here when all he has to do is post a fact directly relating to the OP and you jump on him.

not at all phil. I said it was an unhelpful comment, which it is. how many people need to say its a better card than a gto? or how many peopel have already said that, only for him to say '7600gt > gto. end of'. That's unhelpful, that's my view, and that's the last im saying on it. Dont pull me in to an argument.

Glad you noticed too phil :)

believe you pulled yourself in into the argument......

from some one who has ACTUALLY 'upgraded' to 7600GT from an X800XTPE the performance is very alike as stated previously! it is an excelent card for the money.you lot are just rambling around in circles and not making any helpfull comments whatsoever.

if you are buying new, get the 7600gt. similar performace, better support. If you already have a gto2, dont even bother. not worth it. If you HAVE both, sell the gto2.

That's coming form a gto2 owner who get's ~68xx in 3dmark2005.

james.miller has it in a nutshell

If you have the GTO2 @ X850XTPE speeds then it's not worth the upgrade as they offer pretty much identical performance

If you have both, sell the GTO2 and go for the newer 7600GT

If you have neither and are buying new, go for the 7600GT

EDIT: SM3 BTW doesn't offer a huge boost in image quality over SM2 it's just faster

no i suppose not. I guess that's an unhelpful comment because it doesn't agree with your opinion, seeing as you 'upgraded' form an x800xt. such is life.

I just woke from siesta and got a sore head

The cards dont perform near same, unless your talking pure FPS, the cards are both running totally differnt extentions, yes its good old dx9c / p.s 3.0 again, now some claim it does little, well would you rather we still on p.s 1.0 and living in a cave or better still on 56k dial up :p

I prefer evolution, and im about to pop 2 painkillers.

If you have a fast X800/850 now and are happy with no new s.m3.0 then keep card, if you are on a old ti 4600 or 9800 pro, then dont go out and buy a new X800/X850. only my opinion.

I've lucked into getting my hands on an XFX 7600GT. I currently have a Sapphire X800 GTO2 in my main machine that clocks to 520core / 590ram (just short of X850 XTPE speeds) with no problem. The question is, should I just sell on the 7600GT (perhaps to fund an X2 3800+) or is it going to be faster than my GTO2?

Marc

Soooooo then, getting back on topic with the OP, you should keep the 7600GT and sell the GTO2, you could however sell the 7600GT for about £140ish and keep the same performace you have now, you are only going to miss out on a little performance anyhow.

Personally I'd get the GTO. Image quality is second to none and despite all the pixel shader 3 hoo-hah, it makes not one scrap of difference tbh, loving OBLIVION on my GTO. Excellent VFM.

What's the point of a pretty picture if it doesn't move? :p

to the OP

Seeing as you actually have both the cards already its really a question of wether you need the extra cash.

Both cards run pretty much the same FPS in most games, the 7600GT has SM3 altho tbh, I cant say I lose much sleep at night over not having this feature myself.

If your happy with the GTO then keep it and sell the 7600GT, If you want SM3 then keep the 7600GT and sell the GTO.

The X800 gto in my 2nd rig scores ~7200 in 3dmark05, it doesn't have sm3 but who actually cares? :)
"Upgrading" from that to a 7600GT wouldn't be worth opening your pc case imho.
