Extra cores won't make a difference in lightly threaded games like Arma though would it .

Arma 3 runs better on the single core performance hence intels single core is faster ...but im unsure about the ryzen but the clock speeds look slower which has swayed me towards staying intel

Given that the i9-7900X has about the same single-thread performance as the i7-7700K, I would bet that Coffee Lake may still achieve about the same single-core performance, just like AMD is now hitting the 4GHz wall. It would be safe to stick with Intel for these light-threaded games.
