Hi guys,

I have a "problem", I don't know which to choose.

I can get a second hand XFX 7800 GTX 265mb DDR3 for 180 euros or a XFX 7900 GT/450 256MB DDR3 new for 195 Euros. It's the lowest version 7900GT as you can see, 450Mhz core.

If you guys had to choose, which one would you buy and why? How do these overclock?

Regards,

Jaimy :D

If I had to choose I'd go for the 7900GT, it can clock well and is quicker than the 7800GTX. Plus it's one number higher! :p But I think the 7900GS is the replacement for the 7800GTX, so that means the 7900GT is the sightly better card.

:)

I don't know if the 7900's are still failing though? They had quite a high failure rate. But my 7800GTX is starting to show it's age so I defo wouldn't recommend that.

i think the 7900GT and 7800GTX are roughly on par in terms of performance numbers at stock (maybe 2% in it in odd game, check the reviews). but the 7900GT will have less heat/power requirement, and will overclock higher (probably).

if i were to buy one now, id pick the 7900GT unless the 7800GTX was at least $70 euro cheaper!

(i own a 7800GTX btw)

I'm more than happy with my 7900gt.

Wasn't expecting it to be able to cope with high resolutions (1600 x 1050) but it's doing a great job so far!!! and I haven't even volt modded mine!

570mhz on stock everything (apart from the fan).

Will volt mod this card soon to see what more it can offer, but it's been a great card for me

the 7900gs is NOT the equivalent of the 7800gtx.. the 7900gT might be..

is it a 256 or 512 7800? there's a huge difference! plus 180 euros is what, about £120? thats too much for a 256mb 7800.. I ebayed a 7900gtx for not much more than that just after g80 launched.

7900gs 20 pipelines and 7 vertex whatsits, 7800gtx 24 pipelines and 8 vertex whatsits.

Plus the fact 7800gtxs beat 7900gs' in 3dm06. Its pretty close but I'd still say the 7900gt was the match.

Anyway like I said, 7900gtx is available under £150 which does batter a 7800gtx :)

I've gotten a new Gainward Geforce 7950 GT Golden Sample 256MB DDR3 for 200 euros NEW from ebay. Thought it was a good deal not? And they perform pretty good aswell doesn't it :)
