7800 gtx scores just halved

within the space of a month my 3dmark 2005 score has gone from around 9000 to around 4000 with no system changes...the system is a e6600 @3.15 ghz and 2 gig ram.....the card is still running at its rated speed of just under 500mhz...cant find any reason for the sudden drop in performance which i also see in games..i.e bf2 dropping from around 80fps to around 30fps...

any ideas where to look?
 
Checked all your clocks? The CPU isn't Speedstepping or Throttling?

Got another card you could try to see if it happens to that too?
 
only have an unbenched cheapo card and not sure what it would score anyway...might try it.....

speedstepping and throttling turned off...

sandra multimedia and memory scores are still same as when everything was normal...so it does seem a card issue..but how cna a card run at the same speed and score half the marks?
 
You could try running 3dmark06 and seeing if the CPU score is lower then normal...This would then rule out if it's a cpu usage problem..
 
i never benched it with 06 so thats why i didnt do that..also all other benches are fine..such as sandra above and super pi at seconds....im wondering if i missed something in the bios..gonna check that..
 
Not sure if it's a driver issue, but my card sometimes wouldn't recognise that 3DMark was running hence it kept using it's 2D clock speeds. Try using ATITool or similar to force the card to run at it's specified clock speed.
 
Ati tools is amazing. I was running wow in windowed mode and wondered why it was slower.

Now i got it locked on 3d mode 24/7
 
do you actually notice any difference in a game though? if you honestly dont notice any difference, then i guess its really not the end of the world
