my AGP 6800GT just died :( - everyone say "arrrrr"

im wondering which to get:

Leadtek GeForce 7800 GS 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-085-LT) £211.44

Vs

Gainward BLISS GeForce 6800 GS "Golden Sample" 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-031-GW) £176.19


the thing that worries me is that the 6800 has double the RAM. But the 7800 has 16 pipes to the 6800's 12 pipes.


i would have thought the price jump settles which is better. but then again you get two top ranged games with the 7800 where as the 6800 you dont. so is the extra price just for the packaged stuff?


which one is better ?

PS im not moving over to DX10 or PCI-E for a long long time - a mixture of other things going on like Sandhurst tests :-o
 
but not on this point. 6800 is Faster clock speed, Same memory speed and double the RAM. and your spending £40 for an extra 4 pipes? i was just wondering is 4 extra pipes out does, less clock speed, and half the ram
 
fools the 7800 is far superior with 16 pipes as the 6800 only has 12 pipes. also 7800 is based on newer core and has more efficient shader model 3.0 execution.
 
3.0 is no thing special, even over 2.0 and besides - the newer core just seem to bring a fancier name.


PS i want you lot to start bigging up the 6800 because ive bought that one :P even if you prefer the 7800 - work with me here ;)




PPS why you got 4 gigs of ram cyber-may? video editing or sommit?

the 7800 will more than likely be the faster, the 7 series is usually faster in general than the 6 series, and last post the 6800GS has shader model 3.0 as well, its just not as efficient at implimenting it as the 7 series i don't think. plus as cyber-mav said it has more pipes, its newer technology, more efficient higher performing architecture
 
4 gigs of ram good.

yea 7800gs is deffo more powerful than 6800 any day. even the crappest 7800 is better than the best 6800ultra extreme card.
