Not sure where to stick this so..

Just built my Aspire box with a 939a8x-m, X2 4800+ etx with 7800GS. Built a fresh XP 64 install and every time I attempt to install any nvidia forceware driver (whether modified or not) it gets as far as the XP splash screen, drops to the light blue Logon screen and simple freezes.

I've yet to install XP 32 to ensure there is not hardwareissue but well, any ideas?

Cheers, Paul.

Of course, "Setup.exe" will not recognise the OS otherwise.

The setup runs through fine, prompts for reboot. Once done, freezes just after splash screen.

EDIT-

On a side note, I have also, as part of the upgrade, changed my monitor to an 20" Widescreen TFT (Acer 2032WA).

How long have you left it frozen for? It could be Windows fannying about and taking ages to update the drivers... Try leaving it for a bit longer maybe? I know I had something like that happen on my old NF2 board when I stuck the drivers on. It would sit just before the logon screen after I'd just installed the drivers, apparently frozen, but if I left it for a few minutes it sorted itself out:)

Ok,this post may have to move to a more appropriate group but..

No joy here either. Drivers install (WinXP 32) fine but performance is degraded when attempting to run any type of benchmarking tool. In fact when running 3dmark06 it bluescreens on me with various STOP codes.

Some further information.

Built an Aspire X-qpack with a 939A9X-m board (did anyone notice the system panel connectors (Power LED etc) do not fit with these 2 components?!).

Seasonic S12 430

2GB DDR400 (2x1GB sticks) on Banks 3/4

My initial thought was the gpu was not getting enough power but I have tried various molex's from the psu with same result. I guess my next step is to start changing over memory, reseat etc, but maybe anyone can shed some more light with this particular hardware, quirkiness etc.

(I hoping I've missed something obvious here, jumper etc but..)

Thanks in advance.

Paul.
EDIT- RivaTuner is unable to calculate any OC info for the vard either. Hmm, this gpu worked flawlessly in my sn45.

No errors at all.

I'm going to sling the gpu card back in the sn45 just confirm I haven't somehow knackered it, after that. I'm stumped ;/

EDIT - In frustration, I install 3DMark03 and it worked, however, perfomance does appaers to be degraded, worse than my AthlonXP3200+. Ranging from 70 down to 5fps (especially on the Nature demo)

More worringly the CPU tests where I expected the thing to fly, were stuttery and ranged from 5fps - 200+

Hmmmm

Card works fine in the SN45.

So, back to the ASpire x-qpack + ASRock 939A8X-M m/b. Is there a known issue with this setup and BFG 7800GS OC Cards? Has anyone got a similar setup that has also had problems?

memtested and prime95'ed this box and it shapes up fine. (Compared with similar speced boxes).

Just the gpu anomolies and well... I'm sure it's down to a driver conflict, whether between something ULI related or what I do not know.

Any further ideas or help, much appreciated.

(I'm now just sticking with getting the gpu working with winXP 32 (I've shelved XP 64 for the time being)

cheers, Paul
