7800x3D, CPU Fan step up to stop CPU fan ramping up

As we know with the 7800x3D, even opening apps or a browser etc can cause the temp to spike for a split second, which will then cause my CPU fan speed to increase, which can cause an annoying whirring sound every so often.

I understand that to combat this you can set up a CPU fan step up and step down but I have no idea what these values should be and I'm hoping that one of you knowledgeable folk here could help me with it, here's what my BIOS options look like, any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

What value is your idle temp and what temp does it spike to?

It could be an incorrect pressure mount which means that the temperature will spike abnormally high

You can change the fans to ramp up over a longer time frame (3 seconds or 5) and run maybe a slightly higher fan RPM but I’ve never really worried about it that much.

My ITX build does ramp up in a similar way making a lot of noise but I live with it because I’ve been too lazy to change it.

Thanks for the reply

The cooler is a Phantom Spirit 120 and idle temps are about 40-47c. When the temp spike happens it'll go to about 65c which is enough for the fans to increase RPM which them makes them audible. From reading around online it seems that these temp spikes with 7800x3D are very normal

The issue I'm having is figuring out how to stop the fan from ramping up in the way that it does. I suppose it's a combination between my fan curve (using BIOS default at the moment) and CPU fan step up/step down. A lot of this stuff goes over my head though :D

I didn't know this, actually it's pretty Odd,because mine does not spike like this when I open a window,at all, in fact after a full run of intel burn test, at the highest stress testing level, I only see a cpu max temp of72°C, with a slightly higher cpu package temp, well below the maximum reccommended 89°C
this is with all my fans on full, aio fans, pump speed, intake, exhaust, everything, I don't mind the noise, but I love a cool PC
if the noise is bugging you, plug the air cooler into a none PWM fan header, and adjust the speed to a level you like the sound of using the BIOS fan speed from the fan speed option in the asus bios, or theDC fan speed settingsin the BIOS then go from there, I'm not convinced that your cooler is installed correctly either! the 78003d is a surprisingly cool cpu, that is easy to cool, so something must be wrong at your end, like the cooler being installed wrong, or there not being enough cpu paste on there, did you peel off the cooler mating face film when you installed it?or was it pre- applied paste on there?

Thanks for the reply

The cooler is definitely installed correctly. This temperature spiking for a split second is well known and considered to be normal if you have a Google. I'm just someone that happens to notice these more smaller intricate things.

My temperatures are absolutely fine at idle and at load. At load they never go over 72c

Thank you for repling to my reply!
Sorry, but I don't have to google because I can replicate opening a window while looking at my cpu temp, this shows no spike in temperature. you're sure that you are not cherry picking self confirmation bias 'facts' from google?
I'm just someone with a fine honed BS detector,
If you think that it is a real problem, and you don't like it, do something about it
I might have gone along with this being a real problem if I did not have the same CPU without the stated problem,
I think that you are just reading a reddit post and taking it for gospel, then parroting it, lke it is a big deal; it isn't .
Don't believe everything you read on the internet chap! you might be too caught up trying to notice the little things, while missing the bigger things,, like misinfomation spread on the intrawebs
try and get a poll in the cpu section asking, "does your 78003d temp spike when you open a window?" and we'll see if it is a common problem , or not, plently of 78003d owners here.
If there was a problem with the 78003d heat spikes then there would be a massive thread about it on here

I was referring to plenty of posts online with people reporting the same temperature spikes with the 7800x3D - They're not even big spikes for the most part, I think it's more just the CPU doing a task, generating heat for a split second and then dropping back down. I'm sure if you open hwinfo64 and open some apps and look at your CPU temperature, you'll see it going up for a split second and then back down. That's more to what I'm referring to and it's very easy to replicate

Thanks

Did you try setting the step up to a higher level yet?

I've tried multiple iterations of the step up and step down in the BIOS, from what I can tell it doesn't make any difference at all. The next step is to use the 'FanControl' software as it has more intricate settings for stepup and stepdown, it'll probably be more effective than the limited options I have in my BIOS

Thanks

If only I was smart enough to look at a temp box, and understand what numbers are while opening an app! why ,oh, why am I cursed with this stupidity?!
I'm terribly sorry to inform you that I don't get any heat spike when opening a window/app, why on earth would I be sceptical otherwise?
Cheers.

I'm not sure why you're being so condescending, if that's how you interpret or read my posts then my apologies, that's not how they're meant to come across. Anyway, I'm happy your system is running perfectly!

I made this thread to figure out how I stop my CPU fans from ramping up for a split second rather than talking about the temperature spikes :) So I'll leave it at that

Thanks

70C 35%, 75C 40%, 80C 50% 85C 100%. Setting the first temperature “level” too low will allow the fan to spin faster at every spike.

Thank you for this. I followed this curve and it's absolutely perfect, the only thing I needed to change was 70c @ 20%. Temps are still really good
