I used to overclock some years back with thins that would make your eyes boggle my fav used to be a pub drought in line beer chiller ( heavy as hell but did the job and cooled my beer as well heaven ;) with a small pond pump. Adapeted heat synch with copper tube core back filled with aluminium.
good fun! at the time. I have had a lap top and kids since and was looking at this site over the last month or two looking to re build my current amd system on the cheap but starting with a good graphics card is a must my cpu is a 3800 *2 dual as advised in my last posts 2gd 3200 ram crap mobo gig kn8f-9 with restriced bios to stop cpu over clocking (that will go when I sli)
I was hoping nvidia would launch next gen vcard g80 this month but its not happend so far and it looks as though it may be some time off yet
I can however purchase a 7900gtx unbranded 650 mhz/1660 g3 ram 320 inc vat or a fully overlocked version for another £125 inc vat.
I would be looking to overclock the cheap'er'! version using a h20 system in time anyone gone down this route rather than buying a fully heat pipe prepped xxx card.

It worked quite well

we used to oc the first athlon series with mod finger adapter (adjust on board clock and frequency it just depended on what cach chip was on board as all the eary athlons used the same chip
power-boost1.jpg
) , it was just adjusted on the external pcb soldering or. You could use mod finger device which fitted to the athlon pcb card. And cool to your heart desire. Looking back it was made to do this in order to undermine intel cpus.
Looking at todays devices its a case of pick what you need off the shelf a lot more easy and not as much fun.
nothing like running around a scrap yard with a hammer to get your bit of your dreams

You bet, the beer cooler was noisy and free but I had a long tube to the beer cooler which was kept in out garage and piped through the adjacent wall into the house ('before wife' I couldn’t get away with that now  )
Second line had home brew beer on tap as you would expect not the tin kit from boots but forgive the pun micro brewery rigged to produce beer using a mash tun, You wouldn't believe how much the two have in common both require temperature and fluid control.
Cheep quality beer and cheep high end pc speed on a budget
Phil
