Hi all,
I just installed the first game on my new Conroe system which is Far Cry v1.33.
Half of the graphics are missing and corrupted. Has anyone else had this?
I wondered if this was the problem with the 7900GT's that was mentioned.

3DMark05 works fine though and gave me 9324 3DMarks. Meanwhile I'll try another game. I'm using the current 91.31 drivers, at 1280x1024 with everything on high but no AA. Nothing is overclocked.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Doesnt sound like its graphics card if 3dmark was ok. Any results from other games? Have you checked ide cable between dvd drive and board that its pushed in correctly (long shot) and also tried a reinstall of the game

Hhhm, I haven't tried those options yet and I just dug out COD2 to install.
However I ran 3DMark05 again in both 1280 and 1024 modes and all was fine.
The I loaded Far Cry again (my favourite game! ) and the graphics were corrupt again, half of the textures were missing.

I'll try another game and see what happens.
I'm not confident I have the RAM configured correctly yet though. CPU-Z and Sandra are both saying I have slower ram installed with completely different timings. Everything is on Auto except in the Gigabyte EasyTune it said my RAM wasn't running at 800 so I changed the memory clock multiplier and now it says it is.

Run 06, if the Deep Freeze test doesn't finish then you have one of the borked 7900's, but i think that problem is a FarCry patching problem. :)

Thanks, can you tell me what 06 is? I'll give it a try.

I patched from standard installation to v1.3, v1.31 then v1.33. I'll also try uninstalling it and trying it with no patches first.

futuremark 3Dmark06 is the current benchy from that series, to test the same graphics bits your new card uses

Aha, right. I'll download it.
I just tried Call of Duty 2 and it was incredible - no problems at all, super smooth with every setting maxed out. Thought I was in Russia for a while!

There are known issues with Far Cry and some gfx cards. Get the latest patch and try again.

For example: all black grass.

This also used to happen in Far Cry with my 7800GT. I had no idea what was causing it since evrything else was fine, just had to put the lighting setting on low

Hhhm, I'll try reinstalling in the morning and see what happens with a mixture of levels and patches, which is disapointing as I wanted to get the best out of it.

Just found this too:

LoadsaMoney 3DMark06, the Deep Freeze test is how you tell if your 7900 is borked.

Goods news on that score. I downloaded it and ran Deep Freeze with no problems at all. I then ran the whole thing and it worked fine.

5791 3DMarks (at 1280x1024)
SM2 2561
HDR/SM3 2471
CPU 1598

Noticed 3 things though:

1. Clicking on the demo, froze the PC with top left to bottom right coloured lines on both my main 19" TFT and my second 17" TFT screen. The music started playing in the background so I hit escape then it locked totally. Had to press reset in the end.

2. The Mars test. Am I right in thinking its supposed to be slow, like a massive CPU workout? It said 0 FPS for most of the test and took ages to finish.

3. The results/stats at the end said my AGP Aperture was 0! It also got my RAM wrong, as does CPU-Z and Sandra.

AGP Aperture 0 MB will reflect you not having an AGP slot. Mars is supposed to be that slow. Dunno about the ram. 3DMark demo shouldn't crash though.

Far Cry can be a right pain to patch, I've had many reinstalls of that game due to problems patching it. Once working though its an amazing game that still blows you away when fully cranked up.

Yes it is stunning indeed. Sometimes its nice to take time out and go explore the islands! I'll never get tired of biatch-slapping that shark either! Whenever I watch Lost on TV it reminds me of Far Cry's vistas!

I've never had problems patching it before though. Apparently the v1.4 patch is well overdue, I hope it fixes some of these issues with the latest cards.

Well after much messing around, I have Far Cry working on my 7900GTX/Core Duo.

It seems you have to uninstall the patches one at a time by runing each one again and using the uninstall option on each patch until you get back to the basic installed version. Then uninstall the game and use soemthing like ccleaner.com to remove stray registry entries. I stuffed up becasue I simply uninstalled the game and hence the patches wouldn't go back on when I reinstalled the game.

I reinstalled the game, removed the v1.33 patch (latest one) and then used the all-in-one patch here to get straight to the latest version v1.33.

There is also an AMD64 patch on gamershell but as I am running on an Intel on this PC I didn't install it. I'll try it on my other PC though.

The only thing I noticed when running the HOC Benchmark is that if I enable HDR the colours go all wrong! It didn't do that on my 6800GT! Oh well!
