7970 crossfire and 3 27" monitors for eyefinity, advice on what to get and why?

I believe the reference design has DVI, HDMI and 2 miniDP connectors.
Assuming you end up with 2 of them then those are the connectors you'll have available.
If you get 1080p monitors with just DVI/HDMI then you'll be needing an active miniDP to DVI adapter for the third monitor. The first two will connect with DVI or HDMI.
If you get monitors with DisplayPort and DVI/HDMI then you'll be able to connect 3 monitors just using the appropriate cables.

No idea about the quality but you wouldn't need any £25 active adapters just the necessary cables.
