i currently have a X800 GTO2 with 16 pipelines unlocked, but i bought rainbow six vegas and in the haste of the purchase forgot to take head of the Specs (shader model 3.0 needed)

well they certainly wouldnt be too shabby - its the fact that there is only 128bit memory interface on the 8500 when compared to the 7600's 256. Also bare in mind that the performance of the 7600 is still pretty blumin good - to be frank, if you can pick up a second hand 7800 then you will laughing - over 100fps at most times in CSS whilst hovering around 50 - 80 with the 7600.

Provided you have over a gig of ram then BF2 will be flying on both cards - the 128mem interface on the 8500 would really cripple these games in my opinion.

The 7600 actually has 128bit memory interface. The 8500GT is a bit slower than the 7600Gt but the 8600GT is a bit faster than the 7600GT.

If you only have £50, then buy a 2nd hand card, as no new ones will be faster than your x800.

The 8500GT is pretty poor, and would hardly be able to play newer games like rainbow6 or dirt at anything greater than 800x600.

And your current card will play ccs/BF2 etc better than a 8500GT.

Look for something like a 7800GT for around £50 2nd hand.

Yah the 8500GT is really limited to playing in low res like 800x600 with little or no fsaa... you can however push the ingame quality settings up high - but a little bit pointless with the low res... With overclocking the 8500GT will prolly match your x800 beat it in a few areas but overall the slow DDR2 memory really holds it back...
