My 295 arrives on monday, just wondering if the gt would be worth a crap as a physx card, its what im currently using for gaming and by god is it awful. :(

256mb version.

I wouldn't waste your time mate, I tried using my 512MB 8500GT as a dedicated PhysX card along side my GTX280, and it made things worse!!

I'm sure I've read somewhere that you need to use a 9500GT at least for dedicated PhysX.

By all means try using the 8500, but like I said, it gave me worse performance than just using my GTX280 alone..

Anything less than 64 SP, 96+ better is a waste of time IMO and likely to hold performance back - a card without atleast DDR3 memory doesn't hurt either.

8500GT is prolly slower at physx as a dedicated card than just leaving it to the 295.

This.

Using an 8600GT for physx caused slight slowdowns for me in Mirror's Edge. An 8500gt will make your games slower, not faster.

Ive tried a 8600GT and that slowed my GTX260 down. I did try a 8800GTS 640Mb and that worked pretty well. I had to give up the use of the 8800 when i changed to i5 so that i could still use my TV card and soundcard

Oh OK then - ideally you want a card with atleast 25GB/s memory bandwidth - tho the SPs are more important.

There aren't exactly many cards that have >=64 SP and <128bit DDR3 memory.
