Still can't decide whether to pay the full want for a GTX card so I'm wondering which is best in peoples opinions in terms of the GeForce 8800 GTS or the ATI HD 2900?

Cheers lads - is it even worth upgrading my ATI X1950 XTX to either of these? Will I notice much of a difference?

You'll notice a massive difference with both, get the GTS you won't look back.

8800gts. i hear the 2900 sounds like my x1800xt, a freakin hoover

Mate youve been hearing wrong then...Its nothing like the X1800XT or the X1900 series for that matter... Mine is silent all the time. I cant hear it over my 120mm fans even during gaming. :D

If you are going to use XP Nvidia GTS 640, if you are going to go for Vista i would get a Ati 2900

And if your Dual Booting? :p

You say you have a X1950XTX, thats a beast of a card and if it runs everything that you would like it to run at the moment with settings that you are happy with, i would say keep it to be honest.

man speaketh the truth, havent found a game my 1950XTX cant run at a reasonable quality yet

If you're using Vista I would get the 2900XT easy, the NV Vista drivers are irritating to say the least. Even if dual booting, I would go with the 2900XT since the whole point of dual booting is to ease the transition to Vista not keep one foot dug deep in XP.
