Hi,

i was just wondering compared to the newer graphics cards, how does the 8800 GTX cards do nowadays?

One of the saddest things about technology is that well, unless you have deep pockets, i' am afraid you can get dragged or lagged behind easily.

well i have one and to be honest it runs most games at high settings, mw2, starcraft2. struggles with gta4 but the card has served me well. had it for 3 years i think

Nice link there stulid! I have a 8800GTS 512 and been wondering how it compared to more modern cards cos an upgrade would be nice.

True, but to be fair the 8800gtx is over 4 years old now, it has had a phenomenally long life for a graphics card.

If you go back another 4 years you'd be back to Geforce 4 which were completely obsolete by the time the 8800gtx came out.

I know, I have one now :(

Nah theyre not really that great anymore, as has been said theyve had a good long life though, if you are looking for an upgrade maybe check out a GTX 460 or a cheap radeon 5850.

It's moved along really quickly. I used to have the 8800GT but swapped it for the 5770 when I went uni this year. Not a massive difference but size, quietness and temps were more important for me. And the 5770 can play most games reasonably well anyway.
And before the 8800GT pre-2007 I had the GeForce MX 440, which wasn't too bad!

I would say 8800GTX would be fine for most game up to 1680 res, but will struggle in most modern game such as BFBC2, STALKER, Just Cause 2 etc (Crysis and Metro2033 goes without saying).

We have to bare in mind that 1920 res has now pretty much became the common standard for res...personally, I would say a GTX460 1GB or 6850 or 5850 should be the minimum now if someone was to get a new graphic card for gaming at that res.

if i had a Q6600 to pair with my 8800 GTX i would be handling things ok for it being 4 years old.my 2.8 E6300 was bottlenecking it big time as an upgrade to a 4890 showed 0 fps gain.

to be fair its broken once and been repaired so its still chugging along as we speak and is due to be replaced shortly by a msi gtx 580.

may the msi last as long as the asus 8800 GTX!

Just gone

from a 8800 gtx to a msi 5850
still un decided on the cost price ratio and I only paid £122 for it.
Only game at 1920 x1080 on a q6600 at 3 ghz
card is better just not the jump the 8800 was.
still will ebay the old card

Don't know people are bashing it so much, I only got rid of my 8800GTX last month due to size constraints (had a HR03+ on it) and it runs BC2 at 1920x1200 fine in Win7 and (perfect on max if you're still on XP). Yes if you want full AA on then its not going to like you much, but if you're that fussy then you'll have probably have upgraded long ago.

For a 4 yr old card its amazing! Only downside is the power consumption and size compared to cards providing the same performance now :)

I have just upgraded from 2x 8800 gtx cards in sli to a gtx 580 as one stopped working and I can honestly say, hand on heart, i preferred my 2 8800s!
I'm running a dell 24" @ 1920 res and play BFBC2 on full graphics. The rendering was far superior on my 8800s and wish i had bought another for £50 instead of splashing out £400 for the 580.
