8800 series pricing coming down?

Hello,

I'm in the market for a new PCI-E graphics card, gonna be upgrading from my AGP 6800GT, but I'm wondering when can we expect the 8800GTX to come down to the £300 mark? ;) given the currency difference between the US $ and UK £ and the new 8800 Ultra coming out.

Or has it already been decreased? I don't mind waiting for a month or so but if we're talking like 3 months I would rather go grab a bite now. :p
 
The cheapest GTX on OCuk is at £314 which is pretty close to £300 to bad that the taxman bumps the price up to £370 with VAT.

As it seems Nvidia want to charge an insane amount of money for the Ultra I would imagine that they would like to keep the GTX price where it is now. Unless the new AMD/ATI cards gives a much better price/performence these cards will probably not change that much.

However if the new AMD/ATI cards gives a lot more bang for the buck prices should drop, this I think is the most likely scenario as the pricing from AMD/ATI is rumoured to be where aggressive.

So I would at least hold of till the 14th of May and see what changes to the prices in the gfx market the new offerings of AMD/ATI will bring before going out and buying a card right now.
 
Prices have come down a little, although it's more evident on the 8800GTS 320MB than the higher models. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a decent drop on the 640MB models by the time the new Radeons launch.

Finally some competition again! 'Tis good for consumers this is...
 
The 640meg models is the strangest one, they have been hovering around £250 forever. Whereas both the 320meg and 768meg models have dropped in price.
 
I'm reluctant to go for the GTS, as far as I can see in benchmarks, the GTX seems to be the minimal for a future proof HQ HD setup, the GTS barely gets playable frames at HQ in most modern games at high resolution.

I'm aiming for the BFG OC, and just looked at some US sites now, they sell the OC2 seriously cheap over there. Shame I'm not going there for holidays any time in the foreseeable future :( .

I'm not sure whether those sites in the US have already lowered their price or not though. Thinking about the RRP in $US and translating it straight back to UK £ and the difference is just ... massive.

If you can hang on just a tad longer wait & see what happens when the R600's released, It isn't guaranteed that prices will fall on the GTX but you never know.
 
same situation with me, i have a 6800gt agp card and just made the leap to dual core and pci-express except no graphics card yet, i have a budget for about £350 for a graphics card but the lowest price here is £370.

i wouldnt mind if they knocked 5-10% off them as it would make them a realistic price for upgrading a futureproof pc (gaming wise).

i have seen otherwebsites that do the 8800gtx for 350, would overclockers do a pricematch? as £20 differance is a lot. expecially when i can spend more here with that £20 ^^

give sales a ring, probably your best bet, iv seen other people recommend people ring sales if theyv missed an offer but are spending a fair bit
 
Hmm, ive spotted some price drops today, one low as £214 inc vat for 640mb version else-where, seems they are indeed comming down a fair bit so could assume very soon 320mb version will retail at around £160'ish perhaps? :)

im talking about the 8800gtx not the gts ^^.
 
Where do you see a quote by me refering to your post within this thread...:rolleyes: Anyway moving on; ive informed the powers that be at ocuk with regards to where i saw said price, since someone appears to have asked. :)
